What Is Embryo Donation?

The goal of fertility treatment is to maximise the chances of having a baby. However, this often results in the creation of more embryos than are used in the course of treatment. At some point, a decision has to be made about what to do with these embryos.

Embryo donation is one option available for unused embryos following fertility treatment.  It involves relinquishing unused embryos to someone with infertility, who may not otherwise be able to start their family.

Embryo donation is legal in Australia and is supported by a number of fertility clinics. The process for donating or receiving embryos is slightly different in each clinic, but must comply with state and federal legislation.
